Planning Board cuts Century Drive bond to $200,000
Planning Board · Meeting of September 9, 2026
West Boylston Planning Board cuts a Century Drive road bond from $850,000 to $200,000. The board voted unanimously to reduce the Birdland Realty project's road-acceptance bond after engineering consultant VHB estimated it would cost the town "approximately $180,000" to finish remaining work, including hydrant grading and brush clearing. Clerk Matt Barakian initially floated $250,000 before the board settled near VHB's figure plus a 10 percent cushion.
The move positions the road-acceptance article for the October 19 town meeting warrant, with a September 25 filing deadline. Separately, Town Administrator Mike Ward briefed the board on an unfiled Walmart redevelopment proposal, where abutters raised concerns, one saying simply, "Everything," when asked what worried her about the project. The board also declined to weigh in on a Worcester Street zoning-enforcement appeal, deferring to the Zoning Board of Appeals.
