Ballpark Commission OKs minutes, hears repair update
Other Committee · Meeting of September 9, 2026
Worcester Ballpark Commission presses city to clarify its oversight role over Polar Park finances. Commissioner Russell told the panel that questions he raised about city council-requested financial reports actually fall under a separate ballpark capital committee, not the commission itself, prompting him to ask administration for written clarification reconciling that with the commission's own website description, which he said lists finance duties. A Polar Park facilities representative told the board the WooSox ownership group pays "100 percent" of preventive maintenance costs and has not touched the city's capital fund in over two years, detailing dozens of repairs from a rooftop refrigerant leak to more than 25 broken seats.
The commission approved minutes from its June 10 and July 3 meetings, 4-0, heard previews of a September 18 Mass Hire job fair, a September 25 police-versus-fire charity game, an October 3 Irish Festival drawing 2,000 to 3,000 people, and the October 16-18 "Boo and the Woo" fall festival, and set its next meeting for November 4 at 10 a.m.
