Planning Board Closes Hearing on Car Dealership
Planning Board · Meeting of October 1, 2026
Shrewsbury Planning Board previews drone and data center zoning ahead of December town meeting. Town planning staff, referred to only as Chris, walked the board through amendments modeled on a Mansfield bylaw already cleared by the Attorney General's office, creating four data center tiers topped by a 10-megawatt threshold that would effectively bar the largest facilities. One member pushed back, asking why the board would "prohibit" a 50-megawatt facility willing to pay for utility upgrades.
Separately, engineer Patrick McCarty of McCarty Engineering closed the public hearing on WJC Enterprises' proposed car dealership at 957 Boston Turnpike and 269 Walnut Street, telling the board "we're running the appropriate track" toward a November decision pending state MEPA review. The board also unanimously granted a special permit for an existing dealership at 882 Boston Turnpike and approved a de minimis parking change at 703-715 Hartford Turnpike. A vote on 525 Hartford Turnpike was postponed to November 5 after member Matt's absence left the board without quorum.
