Finance panel backs $38,000 permitting software switch
Finance Committee · Meeting of September 28, 2026
Westborough Finance Committee clears six warrant articles, including a forced permitting-software overhaul. The Advisory Finance Committee voted 5-0 to recommend $38,000 toward replacing PermitPro, the town's permitting software since 2014, after the vendor set a June 2027 end-of-support deadline; the full transition to OpenGov runs closer to $68,000, with departments covering the rest. Community Development Director Fred Lonardo said flatly, "We'd rather not go back to paper." The committee also backed $182,575 in additional Fire Department wages under a negotiated union contract, a transfer of leftover 250th Anniversary gift funds, and a home rule petition raising the citizen-petition signature threshold from 10 to 50.
Member Terry O'Day pushed again for the town to explore revenue from the idle golf course building. Two articles, on affordable housing and a police firearms range, await October 1 presentations.
