Finance panel backs school budget review funding
Finance Committee · Meeting of September 24, 2026
Lunenburg Finance Committee moves toward funding an outside review of the school department's budget. Presiding member Peter Beardmore, filling in for absent Chair Chris Menard, said "there's always a certain amount of friction and finger pointing" between the school's and town's finance functions, which has "progressively gotten worse." A school official called the planned review, likely paid from the committee's reserve fund, "not technically an audit" but a reconciliation of FY26 district finances after two straight years of unexpended funds being turned back. The committee also previewed seven draft warrant articles for the November 17 special town meeting, including $195,830 for track and turf field engineering toward an estimated $2 million project, and a proposed veterans' exemption increase from $400 to $600 or $800.
Members approved July 14 and August 13 minutes unanimously on a motion by Ana Lockwood, seconded by Tom Gray.
