Westborough Library Board Meets New Governance Consultant, Receives $12,500 Book Bike Grant

WESTBOROUGH — April 29, 2026 — Westborough Library trustees meet new governance consultant and learn of a $12,500 state earmark for an electric book bike. The Board of Trustees convened April 29 and heard from newly hired governance consultant Maura Dee Dee, a former Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners library advisory specialist, who outlined a six-to-seven-month engagement covering a board retreat, an operating manual, and a bylaws review. Library Director announced that a legislative earmark secured through State Senator Michael Moore — funded through the millionaire's tax — will pay for an electric-assist cargo tricycle from Icicle Tricycles, a book display bike suitable for use at the downtown farmer's market and other outreach events. "Short of getting a bookmobile, it's the best we could do," the director said. The board also learned that the building security system at the new 55 West Main Street library came in significantly over budget, with fire and police requiring card-reader access controls and interior and exterior cameras at a cost not anticipated in the original estimate; the library building committee is determining which budget line will absorb the overage.
