Sterling Select Board fills highway, zoning, and assessment posts at January meeting. The board voted unanimously on January 20 to appoint Joe Firman as highway deputy superintendent, add Brian Sturgis to the Zoning Board, and reappoint Christopher Parsons to the Board of Assessment Review. Highway Superintendent Chris reported a new plow truck is being priced out but will not arrive for roughly two and a half years due to manufacturing lead times, and that the department received a $1,200 bid to replace broken weather stripping on all six overhead doors at the highway barn.
A public water committee member told the board that officials are pursuing additional USDA Rural Development funding and up to $1 million in congressional grants to help close a project funding gap, with a USDA meeting expected within two weeks and a congressional office representative scheduled to visit shortly after.
