Select Board · Meeting of September 14, 2026

Oakham sets Oct. 26 special town meeting as ambulance rumors and a battery-storage fight collide. Rutland Fire Chief Seth Knipe told the Select Board his department answered 25 of Oakham's ambulance calls since July 1 with an 8.2-minute average response, rebutting rumors Oakham Fire Chief Timothy Howe said surfaced at a senior cookout. Selectmen separately approved another $500 from the town's wetlands protection fund, down to about $3,082, to pay consultant Scott Horsley's final invoice defending the Conservation Commission's denial of Moraga Storage's battery project, now under state appeal.

The board also learned the town owes nearly $13,000 after an old accounting software subscription, Springbrook, auto-renewed when the prior accountant missed a cancellation deadline, and directed a letter demanding the firm make it right. "I was pissed," one selectman said of an earlier attempt to bill part of the consultant's invoice to the Planning Board.
