Select Board · Meeting of September 14, 2026

East Brookfield sets Nov. 9 special town meeting amid stalled year-end books. The Select Board voted unanimously to open the warrant Oct. 5 and close it Oct. 19, with department heads required to bring final account figures to the closing session. Staff told the board the town accountant still cannot certify free cash because the treasurer has not finished closing out fiscal 2026, more than seven weeks past the point towns typically aim to finish.

At stake: an estimated $42,000 repair to a state highway the town cut open for utility work, and roughly $30,000 for Town Hall's nearly 30-year-old heating system before freezing temperatures arrive around Sept. 28. The board also adopted a revised social media policy after three departments objected to language suggesting all department posts needed prior approval, saying "that was not our intention," and narrowed a facilities-assessment consultant search, run through CMRPC, to three finalists.
