Worcester Schools Hires Sean Rose as Equity Chief
WORCESTER — Worcester Public Schools has hired former city councilor Sean Rose to fill a newly created chief of access, opportunity and equity post, part of a busier-than-usual weekend of district news that also included an expanded Clark University partnership and new goals from the superintendent.

"Ex-city councilor Rose hired for admin position in Worcester schools," the Worcester Telegram & Gazette reported this week, per Worcester Patch. Rose will lead a newly funded office focused on narrowing achievement gaps and deepening family engagement districtwide, officials said, with the position covered inside the district's existing budget.
"Worcester Schools Expands Longstanding Partnership With Local University," Worcester Patch also reported. The renewed agreement with Clark University broadens internships, teacher training, dual enrollment and the district's "Grow Our Own" educator pipeline for Worcester students and staff.
"Worcester superintendent sets new goals for academic gains, district leadership," according to The Worcester Guardian. The new targets focus on lifting reading and math scores and sharpening school boundary planning, while the School Committee presses for clearer reporting on academy structures and cybersecurity readiness.

The Worcester Public Library's Friends of WPL Book Sale runs Sept. 25-26 at the library's 3 Salem St. branch, both days starting at 10 a.m. The library follows with its Harvest in the City Block Party on Sept. 26 at 11 a.m., and hosts a "Creating a Pollinator Habitat Anywhere!" program on Sept. 22 at 6:30 p.m.
Mechanics Hall welcomes Ballet Magnificat's performance of "Anchored: The Pilgrim Story" on Sept. 25 at 7 p.m., and the College of the Holy Cross' Prior Performing Arts Center hosts a concert billed as "Brkfst: Stormclutter" on Sept. 24 at 7:30 p.m.

"Clark students work to revive the forgotten past," Clark University reported on its news site. Students spent the summer researching Worcester's overlooked Black history and the legacy of the Oread Institute through internships with Preservation Worcester, the university said, a project Worcester Patch also flagged in its weekend roundup.
