WESTBOROUGH — The Westborough Economic Development Committee tabled its annual letter backing a single tax rate, seeking more data before the Select Board's November vote. Sandy Coker was elected to another term as chair and Mike Carroll as vice chair, 7-0 with one abstention. Member Carroll warned a higher business rate could push companies toward Marlborough, saying "the tax rate is a big one." The committee also voted unanimously to support Cafe Nine's application to the Massachusetts Cultural Council for music programming funding.
Two new members, Amy Moser Barry and George Bonon, were introduced after Select Board appointment. Staff reported Westborough received a 495/Route 9 Gateway planning grant and that a local company secured $1.46 million in state tax credits. The annual business awards event moves to January 29, with six award categories and $200 suggested sponsorships.
