Northborough's Youth Commission opened its new meeting year with a pediatrician's briefing on child and teen health, then handled routine business. Dr. Medina, the Northborough-Southborough Regional School District's physician, walked the panel through age-specific priorities from maternal mental health in infancy to teen substance-use prevention and safe driving, and fielded questions on confidential medical care for minors.
Student liaisons Arjun and Miriam, both high school seniors, described peer pressure to hide academic stress, with Miriam saying "that's the side they're not showing and that's the side that they're hiding." The commission unanimously approved its June 2 minutes, heard that youth outreach has grown to 432 Facebook and 203 Instagram followers, and learned its next meeting shifts to Nov. 4 to avoid an Election Day conflict on Nov. 3.
