Templeton Select Board edged toward a second property tax override after department heads said there is little left to cut.
Select Board · Meeting of August 10, 2026
Templeton Select Board edged toward a second property tax override after department heads said there is little left to cut. Town Administrator James Ryan said closing the town's $1.1 million fiscal 2027 gap without an override would mean "an absurd amount of personnel cuts" in police, fire and highway departments. The police chief called prior suggested trims "peanuts," while Fire Chief Dickey said the ambulance receipts account lost about $100,000 after Clearbrook Treatment Center moved its contract elsewhere.
The town accountant said a $1.1 million override would add $348.02 to the average tax bill, bringing it to $4,838.06. Member Candace Graves said she "cannot get behind an override" without a specific cuts list, while Vice Chair Timothy Toth said he would support moving one forward. The board scheduled a special meeting for August 17 to review a detailed layoff and cuts plan before deciding.
