Lunenburg Select Board Unanimously Approves Four-Article Special Town Meeting Warrant

Select Board · Meeting of August 10, 2026

Lunenburg Select Board approves Special Town Meeting warrant covering four school funding articles. The board voted unanimously Monday to include a School Committee article requesting $418,056 for the school department's fiscal year 2027 operating budget and to approve the full warrant as presented for the September 3 Special Town Meeting. Two citizen-petition articles were automatically placed on the warrant: one open-ended in dollar amount to supplement school operations, and one requesting $151,338.38 to reinstate middle school sports and fund athletic transportation.

Town Manager warned the board that certified free cash, named as a funding source in the third article, will almost certainly not be available that early in the fiscal year, and that Town Counsel Acosta had not yet issued a definitive answer on what "available funds" would legally be in scope. The Finance Committee is set to take up the matter Thursday, August 14, with a public hearing on August 27.
