Simon Fairfield Library Trustees Unanimously Retain Slate, Push Security and ADA Work

DOUGLAS — May 26, 2026 — Simon Fairfield Public Library trustees unanimously retained their leadership slate and flagged a state-aid compliance deadline at their May 26 meeting. Library Director Justin reported the library must spend $78,000 on materials by June 30 to meet the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners' 19 percent spending floor for state aid eligibility — with $66,000 spent so far, roughly $12,000 remains to be committed in June. The trustee-controlled capital fund has crossed $300,000, sitting at $300,489.01 after recent interest gains. Trustees are also moving to replace the library's rear door within two weeks, at a cost covered by an $11,621 combined maintenance budget, and volunteer Fred Fontaine is testing a new $160 NVR to restore a non-functional security camera system the board called increasingly necessary given a pattern of disruptive teen behavior. Unibank will present a $2,500 unrestricted donation at Polar Park on June 26, and the Friends of the Library book and plant sale netted $1,085.39 over Memorial Day weekend.
