Shrewsbury Delays Paving Program After AG Dispute
Select Board · Meeting of September 22, 2026
Shrewsbury delays $1.64 million paving program after Attorney General dispute over contractor pick. Assistant Town Manager Keith Baldinger told the Select Board the town's move to bypass its low bidder got overruled by the Attorney General's office, pushing Walnut Street and Keys House Road repairs into spring 2027. The board also reviewed a roughly $800,000 police station repair estimate, down from an initial $1.1 million projection, tied to a February crash in which a vehicle hit the building at "72 miles an hour, which is quite excessive," Baldinger said.
Members set a Special Town Meeting for Monday, December 7 at the Oak Middle School Auditorium, and unanimously authorized a Local Initiative Program agreement with Pulte Homes of New England for the Emerald Run development, restricting 15 percent of new condo units as affordable housing. The board declined to appoint student Sanjay Papu to a second committee seat, directing outreach for other applicants instead.
