Warren Select Board accepts FEMA grant for two new firefighters, clears nearly $1 million in contracts. The board unanimously accepted a roughly $231,000 three-year federal SAFER grant, with about a $143,000 town match, that Fire Chief Adam Lavoie said will help end the department's "antiquated on-call system." Members also approved a $222,000 Thomas E. Snowden Inc. contract for senior center HVAC work, a $498,386.10 Ludlow Construction contract for the Hillside Avenue project, and $128,000 and $40,500 Weston and Sampson Engineers contracts for Washington Street and Summer Street infrastructure work.
Superintendent Stephen Duff told the board Quaboag's elementary school merger "went very well" despite busing headaches, and flagged a second-exit safety concern at the elementary school. The board declined a land donation on Brimfield Road worth $344 a year in taxes and granted a conditioned liquor license to the Fraternal Order of Eagles for an October 3 charity bike run.
