Select Board weighs truck limits on Williamsville Road
Select Board · Meeting of October 5, 2026
Barre Select Board declines to vote on a Williamsville Road truck weight petition, points to costly state study. Resident Ben Johnson presented a petition, backed by 33 signatures from 23 households, seeking to bar commercial vehicles over 2.5 tons from the road, citing trucks he measured at "over 100 decibels." Board members said the state called that threshold "too restrictive" and that a required engineering study alone could cost roughly $20,000, with no guarantee of a posted restriction. The board agreed to add signage and deploy a radar speed trailer instead.
Separately, the board approved a $304,333 CDBG-funded contract with Costello Landscaping and Construction, an agreement with Tighe & Bond for a South Barre infrastructure assessment, and swore in the police department's new comfort canine, Barry.
