Select Board · Meeting of April 30, 2026
Hardwick's Select Board signed the annual town meeting warrant, dropping two articles and leaning on $200,000 in uncertain revenue to balance next year's budget. Town Administrator Justine said a $100,000 solar lease payment and conservatively budgeted gravel sales are covering what would otherwise be a shortfall over the Proposition 2½ limit, which stood at $14,162 before adjustments. Finance Committee member Bill Cole warned the solar deal "we don't know what the next payment is" since the developer can terminate after the first payment.
The board also found itself $224,000 over budget on snow and ice removal against just $74,000 in free cash, approved two sewer abatements totaling $1,699.83, cut a combined treasurer-collector line from $19,500 to $16,000, and voted to ask every department head for 10 percent cuts, though Clerk Zachary Spencer said he doubted it would work.
