North Brookfield Select Board approves National Grid land deal, then closes doors on a personnel matter. Selectmen voted unanimously to sign a Construction Access and Use Agreement letting National Grid stage equipment at 59 East Brookfield Road for a substation rebuild, after confirming insurance coverage split between National Grid and Zurich American Insurance Company. The board also approved $600 to Canian Plumbing and Heating for a Highway Department brine-system shutoff valve, comparing two quotes a member called "quite a difference." Police Chief Ryan Daly reported 1,242 calls for service in August and a record 200 vehicles at the department's fourth annual car show at Brookfield Orchards.
Council on Aging Director Courtney Rivera's report showed 361 sign-ins, though staff said a statewide software glitch had scrambled the count, now tracked by hand. The board recessed at 6:40 p.m. into executive session under state law "to discuss the discipline or dismissal of... a public employee," with no plan to reconvene publicly.
