Select Board adopts RDIC charter over commission's objection

Rutland Select Board overrides its own development commission to adopt a broader charter. The board voted 4-0 to adopt an updated charge for the Rutland Development and Industrial Commission despite the commission's request to keep its existing charge unchanged, a dispute tracing back to the 2024 dissolution of the town's Economic Development Committee. Auditor Terenzio Volpecelli of Roselli Clark & Associates delivered a clean opinion on the town's fiscal 2025 books, citing an 18 percent reserve ratio and a AA bond rating.

Town employees face an 18.9 percent health insurance increase for a second straight year; board member Alex Bowett said he has "cut health insurance expenses ... to the tune of 40 percent" at other employers and pushed for more alternatives. The board also appointed Holly Haines to the Board of Registrars and dedicated the annual town report to longtime volunteer Peter Crane.
