Northborough-Southborough regional school subcommittees caught a capital-budget spreadsheet error and learned a cafeteria heating unit is already offline.
Capital Planning · Meeting of October 7, 2026
Northborough-Southborough regional school subcommittees caught a capital-budget spreadsheet error and learned a cafeteria heating unit is already offline. Committee member Matt found that a proposed $645,000 fiscal 2028 capital package actually totaled roughly $460,000 after a rooftop unit was mislisted at $35,000 instead of $150,000; facilities presenter Keith said "it's picking up something that it shouldn't" and agreed to fix the spreadsheet. Finance official Becky said fiscal 2027 is the last year of Algonquin's 2004 renovation debt, to be replaced in fiscal 2028 by athletic complex debt service, a swing of "at least $800,000." Keith confirmed the high school cafeteria's backup heating unit is down, leaving a single 25-year-old unit in service for winter.
Becky also reported the regional assessment rose 5.81 percent this year and projected roughly $600,000 in fiscal 2028 health insurance savings from restructuring toward the state Group Insurance Commission's plan design.
