Mendon's General By-Law Review Committee unanimously backed revised noise bylaw language ahead of Tuesday's Special Town Meeting.
General By-Law Review Committee · Meeting of October 22, 2026
Mendon's General By-Law Review Committee unanimously backed revised noise bylaw language ahead of Tuesday's Special Town Meeting. Committee member Carl Hummel outlined five changes made in response to a detailed letter from Board of Health Agent Colleen, including adding "public health" to the bylaw's purposes and clarifying that continuous violations draw a new $300 ticket each day. Hummel said enforcement would start with a verbal warning, escalate to a $100 ticket, then $300, an alternative Police Chief Kersey wanted to disorderly-conduct arrests.
Resident Tom Bellen, of 34 Crestview Drive, said his neighborhood's year-long sound issue made the bylaw "very timely." If approved Tuesday, the bylaw heads to the Massachusetts Attorney General's Office for review, a process Hummel said takes "a couple of months," before taking effect.
