General By-Law Review Committee · Meeting of August 26, 2026
MENDON — The Mendon General By-Law Review Committee discussed draft bylaws on door-to-door solicitation and license-plate-reader cameras but took no vote on either. Member Carl Hummel, who is drafting the solicitation bylaw, said the "Flock Camera Company's audit trails are a joke" and urged police to publish periodic logs of license-plate searches. Members cited Mendon senior center statistics putting the share of residents over 65 at "40 percent, maybe 50 or 60 percent" as a reason for tighter solicitation rules, while preserving carve-outs for Girl Scout cookie sales and youth sports fundraising.
The panel agreed to ask the Select Board for placeholder warrant articles on both items ahead of November's Special Town Meeting and to invite Police Chief Kersey to its next meeting. The only roll-call vote of the night, 4-0, was to adjourn.
