Panel Backs Crosswalk Fix, Eyes Lyman St Safety Zone
Other Committee · Meeting of September 21, 2026
Westborough safety panel backs a Hastings-area crosswalk fix and floats a 20 mph zone for Lyman Street. The committee voted unanimously to recommend the Select Board install new signage and repaint a faded East Main Street crossing near Stevens Road and Shepard Road, where a resident said five families walk children to Hastings Elementary on "the existing faded crosswalk that not many drivers even see." Separately, member Don argued a full truck exclusion on Lyman Street near Del Webb would illegally push traffic into Northborough, and instead proposed a state-enabled "safety zone" cutting the speed limit there from 40 to 20 mph, telling the board it should run "all the way up past Del Webb." Members cited at least two past pedestrian fatalities near the corridor and will seek guidance from the Central Massachusetts Regional Planning Commission before drafting a formal recommendation to the Select Board.
