Milford Finance Committee unanimously backs $620,000 eminent domain takeover of a Police Station neighbor. The committee voted 7-0 Wednesday to recommend a special town meeting article authorizing the town to acquire 6 Park Terrace — a vacant two-family home adjacent to the rear of the Police Station — by eminent domain at an appraised value of $520,000, with an additional $100,000 for demolition. Town Administrator Rick Villani said $505,000 is already held in a town real estate fund account, with the remainder drawn from free cash and no impact to the operating budget.

Police Chief Robert Tusino told the committee the station has just 12 parking spaces for 77 employees and that cramped sally port access sometimes requires officers to walk arrestees in through unsecured areas. The committee also flagged a sharp drop in projected state aid — from roughly 10 percent growth last year to less than 1 percent under the governor's proposed budget — which one member called "a multi-million dollar swing" that could force department budget cuts ahead of spring town meeting.
