Lunenburg Conservation Commission Opens Two Wetland Hearings, Seeks House Relocation Study

LUNENBURG — June 3, 2026 — Lunenburg Conservation Commission continues two new wetland hearings and presses a developer to reconsider house siting on a 28-acre West Townsend Road lot. At the June 3 meeting, the commission opened a notice of intent for a single-family home with unavoidable stream crossing at 507 West Townsend Road, where the applicant's representative from New England Environmental Design described 268 square feet of proposed wetland fill — below the statutory replication threshold — but commissioners Richard Bursch and Andrea Burnett pushed back, asking why a house on a 28.44-acre parcel was designed within the 100-foot buffer at all. "I, for one, would like to see us try to mitigate any construction where we have a wetland crossing," Bursch said. The commission also opened a second new hearing for a failed septic replacement at 146 Youngs Road, both cases continued to June 17 pending DEP file numbers. Separately, the commission voted unanimously to approve Solitude Lake Management's plan to treat 25 acres of Hickory Hills Lake with flumeoxazin herbicide on June 10 to combat dense fanwort growth, and approved a $2,411.25 cleaning contract for the commission-owned Hollis Road property, drawing from the Haas fund, which held $26,684.10 as of May 7.
