Library Trustees Approve Warrants, Debate Holiday Pay
Library · Meeting of September 23, 2026
Grafton library trustees learn insurance will cover fire damage as a Halloween pay dispute simmers. Library Director Katrina Ireland-Bilodeau told the Board of Library Trustees a weekend fire that damaged an exterior column and planter will be fully covered, minus a $10,000 deductible, after sprinklers stopped it from spreading and a passerby called it in. Trustees separately debated a new three-year union contract requiring time-and-a-half pay for hours outside the library's normal 58-hour week, with Trustee Chris Belts warning the Halloween staffing cost, estimated around $400, "could be $1,200 or $1,500" and combined with other events could reach $3,000 a year in state aid.
Rather than vote, the board let the director cover Halloween through comp time and referred the contract question to the town administrator. The board also approved four warrants totaling $27,660.26 and heard the teen room drew a record 123 visitors during a recent school half-day.
