Trustees approve alcohol, deny greeting card box
Library · Meeting of September 22, 2026
Shrewsbury library trustees approve alcohol for 10th-anniversary gala, hold off on a new card drive. Board Chair Lisa Powers oversaw votes to permit alcohol at the October 23 Splendid Evening gala (one trustee abstained "due to religious reasons"), renew a technology and makerspace assistant's contract at $21,216, and spend up to $2,000 in state aid to send the outreach librarian to a marketing conference. Former trustee Mo Poirier, chairing the gala fundraising committee, said the campaign has reached roughly $40,000 of a $60,000 goal: "If you don't ask, you don't receive." Trustees unanimously approved naming the library's Learning Lab after the late Dean Gillum and a three-year, $2,544 Beanstack renewal.
They voted down a proposed holiday greeting-card collection box, citing a policy capping community drives at four a year, and will revisit that policy next month.
