Hubbardston Library Trustees Approve Lower-Level Renovation at Nearly $48,000

HUBBARDSTON -- July 9, 2026, Hubbardston Library Trustees voted unanimously Thursday to proceed with a lower-level renovation project at a base cost of $47,985, with the final figure expected to rise once a contractor contingency fee is added. Library Director Christine Barbara presented a quote revised during a same-day site meeting that swaps existing hardwood floor refinishing for luxury vinyl plank flooring at $6,500, adds $1,200 for office painting, and calls for replacement of all walls and ceilings to address surface mold, changes trustees endorsed without dissent. Payment flows through the Community Preservation Committee's warrant system, and trustees are strategizing to align the project's two-to-three-week completion window with an August warrant cycle to avoid a late-payment surcharge; CPC Chair Danielle Ericalian and Treasurer Susan Worth will be contacted to coordinate.
