Douglas Board of Health Approves March Minutes, Eyes June 1 for Next Meeting

DOUGLAS -- April 27, 2026, The Douglas Board of Health held a routine monthly meeting Monday, approving its March 30 minutes and receiving updates on the transfer station, landfill repairs, and a statewide public health survey. A board member reported finding the transfer station gate open and spoke with a hauling contractor's driver who complained about bathroom access and a lack of recognition for cleanup work; the board concluded that nearby public facilities, a convenience store and the town fire station, satisfy any code requirement and that workplace grievances should be directed to the driver's employer. On the landfill settlement area, the board said it plans to finalize a draft letter to the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection outlining three remediation options, with DEP making the final call on which approach the town must pursue. Health department staff reported completing the state's SAPHE 2.0 public health performance standards survey, 240 questions covering budgets, inspections, permits, and regulations, submitted just before its deadline, with Public Health Nurse Kristen and staff member Crystal credited for the work. The board's next meeting is set for June 1, with the May date bypassed due to Memorial Day.
