Capital Planning · Meeting of January 29, 2026

Berlin's Capital Planning Committee backed a $12,000 police rifle purchase and endorsed $180,850 in Community Preservation Committee funding requests. The committee voted unanimously to move the long gun purchase into the current fiscal year, funded through the town's mitigation account rather than free cash. Members also endorsed three CPC warrant articles headed to a February 3 CPC vote: a $100,000 Conservation Commission land-acquisition fund, $40,000 for tornado-damaged trail repairs, and $40,850 to restore the First Parish Church town clock.

Member Janez John Mavretic asked "why just give them $100,000 just in case they want to spend it?" before the committee voted to support all three articles unanimously. Members also learned the town administrator, identified only as Kristen, is departing for a position in Upton, leaving Berlin without an assistant administrator in place.
