Board Splits 2-1 on Building Inspector Reappointment
Select Board · Meeting of August 20, 2026
Warren weighs $10.8 million or $13.9 million for a new police station after a cost study, and splits 2-1 on reappointing its building inspector. Architect Jeff McLeod told the Select Board a renovated former bank building would run about $13,876,350, versus roughly $10.8 million for new construction beside the DPW garage, after he caught a double-counted markup error that had inflated the earlier estimate to $12 million. The board set a single public hearing for September 9 at the Quabog Auditorium to gauge resident support before any ballot question.
Separately, the board voted 2-1 to reappoint Building Commissioner William Cantell through December 31, with one member, Ray Capacco, dissenting: "Bill is not a public servant. By his own admission, he's not interested in being a public servant." The board also approved warrants totaling more than $1.38 million, awarded a three-year wastewater sludge contract to Wind River Environmental LLC, and appointed resident Danielle Fountain to the Cultural Council.
