Capital Planning · Meeting of March 23, 2026
Berlin's Capital Planning Committee rejected about $303,000 in capital items the regional school district added after December's approvals. Members unanimously voted down five extra Berlin Memorial School items worth $69,884 and seven added Tahanto Regional High School items worth about $233,000, holding the district's fiscal 2027 total at the originally approved $194,537. The panel also caught an error in a draft town meeting warrant article that had listed the district's request at $344,961 instead of the correct figure, and voted unanimously to rewrite Article 9 to direct $657,821 of the town's $863,858 in capital-eligible free cash into the capital stabilization fund.
"Did you try to sneak it in, or what's going on?" one member asked of the district's additions. The committee said it would notify Interim Town Administrator Jeff Nutting of the corrected numbers.
