Berlin Panel Backs $62,000 Landfill Study, Ambulance Gear
Capital Planning · Meeting of September 14, 2026
Berlin's Capital Planning Committee unanimously backs $62,000 for landfill engineering, $66,852 for an ambulance monitor, but balks at a $277,000 demolition plan. The committee approved a not-to-exceed $92,100 contract with Tighe & Bond to continue DEP-mandated landfill closure testing, with $62,000 of that coming fresh from capital stabilization. It also approved $66,852.07 for a second ALS cardiac monitor for the fire department, presented by John Paulino on Chief McCullin's behalf.
But members balked at combining $119,000 in school roof surplus, $50,000 from the South Commons Court paving fund, and $108,000 in ARPA money, roughly $277,000 total, to demolish the old fire station and EMS building, with bids due October 8. "We're throwing away a quarter of a million dollars for nothing," one member said. The committee also tabled a disputed water line tied to a historic septic project on First Parish Church property, pending a town counsel opinion.
