Auburn economic panel reelects chair, weighs strategic plan

Other Committee · Meeting of July 16, 2026

Auburn Economic Development Committee reelects Mary as chair and begins weighing a new strategic plan. The committee, briefed by an assistant town manager identified as Paul, discussed commissioning the town's first economic development strategic plan since roughly 2017, estimated at $50,000 to $100,000 and potentially funded through the October Special Town Meeting warrant. Members reviewed early findings from a June 8 Urban Land Institute panel on the Auburn Mall area, including a zoning discrepancy limiting building heights there, with a Planning Board hearing set for August 11.

The committee also learned Auburn's affordable-housing share could dip to roughly 9.9 percent, just under the state's 10 percent threshold, if a litigation-delayed development misses a permitting deadline. Member Patrick warned that "the strategic plan would need a way to evolve" so goals survive turnover on town boards. Minutes from May 28 and June 8 were approved without corrections.
