Zoning board approves variance for two Southbridge Street buildings

Zoning Board · Meeting of July 16, 2026

Auburn Zoning Board grants variance for two commercial buildings despite neighbor pushback on traffic and noise. Chaired by Robert J. Tatro, the board voted 5-0 in three separate roll calls to approve relief for 224A Southbridge Street LLC to build two 50-by-125-foot buildings at 282 Southbridge Street, cutting required parking from 70 spaces to 25 and allowing a surface stormwater basin in a Zone II wellhead district.

Forest Park Condominium residents Dennis Knight and Valinda Brown raised concerns about noise and the lack of a crosswalk near Hampton Street; member Meghan E. Roche said she was "ready to die on this hill" over a 2020 traffic study's continued relevance before ultimately supporting the project. The board also unanimously approved a fifth-dog kennel permit for Linda Luperchino on Oxford Street North, a building addition for POBCO Inc. on A Street, and a continuance to August 20 for MAST Futures LLC's amusement-facility permit amendment.
