Select Board · Meeting of August 18, 2026
Auburn resident presses officials on legality of Flock camera contract as board advances $1.4 million culvert project. Precinct 4 town meeting member Eric Richards told the Select Board that records he obtained raise questions under Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 30B about whether the town's Flock Safety license plate camera contract, with a 12-month initial term and automatic 36-month renewal, required town meeting authorization. "This discourse is exactly what municipal checks and balances are supposed to accomplish," Richards said, asking the town manager, procurement officer and town counsel for written answers to five questions.
Separately, Town Engineer Emma Williamson told the board the Water Street culvert, closed to one lane since a 2025 MassDOT inspection, won't see construction begin before spring 2028, at an estimated $1.4 million. The board also unanimously approved a change of manager for the Auburn Sportsman's Club, accepted an $85 gift to the Fire Department, and voted to send its draft special town meeting warrant to town counsel.
