Board of Assessors · Meeting of June 22, 2026
BERLIN — The Berlin Board of Assessors reviewed a decades-old square-footage error affecting seven units at the Brook Lane condominiums. Assessing staff member Linda Barisha told Chair Kevin Pond and member Roger Bradley that a real estate agent, Doug Stone of REMAX Executive Realty, had alerted owners that roughly 132 square feet of unfinished loft space had been counted as finished living area, inflating one unit's figure to 578 square feet against a correctly measured 446 square feet elsewhere. Staff remeasured two units, correcting one to 1,811 total square feet, but said "since nobody's filed for an abatement, we cannot do that" retroactively under state law.
The correction will appear on fiscal 2027 bills; the dollar impact was described as "very little significant change." The board also signed off on an excise commitment of $49,515 and set its next meeting for July 27, 2026.
