NORTHBOROUGH — The Northborough Zoning Board of Appeals voted 5-0 to approve special permits, site plan approval and three zoning waivers for a two-building, roughly 18,189-square-foot mixed-use project at One Church Street. Member Brad Blanchett pushed to keep a crosswalk sight-distance study the applicant wanted dropped, saying "we hired a professional engineering firm to give us advice and their advice is to do the profiles." Tetra Tech traffic consultant Courtney Sudak told the board the applicant's swept-path analysis for trash trucks and vertical sight-distance profiles for the Church Street crosswalk were never submitted despite being requested in a June letter. The applicant agreed to drop painted pavement markings favored by Department of Public Works staffer Lee Barry's objections, keeping only "do not block" signage.
The 34-space, 32,583-square-foot combined lot includes affordable units the board said would count toward the town's Chapter 40B housing inventory. The board also approved minutes from its June 23 meeting unanimously.
