Zoning Board · Meeting of August 10, 2026

WORCESTER — The Worcester Zoning Board of Appeals approved zoning relief for six projects Monday, led by a 209-unit rental development on the former Worcester Academy fields at 232 Stafford Street. Chair Jordan Berg Powers and the board voted 5-0 to grant frontage and height variances plus a parking special permit for the project, after Cherry Valley resident Greg Buteau cited Massachusetts Department of Transportation counts of roughly 12,300 daily vehicles near the site and called the plan's traffic analysis something he "respectfully, very strongly disagree[d]" with. The developer will pay 3 percent of construction costs into the city's Affordable Housing Trust Fund in lieu of on-site affordable units.

The board also unanimously approved a two-unit duplex at 69 Orient Street, a fire-extinguisher company headquarters at 6 Woburn Street, a Taco Bell drive-through at 79 Pullman Street, a parking-lot special permit at 30 LaGrange Street, and a six-month extension on Camp Street, while continuing a 149 Plantation Street hearing to August 31.
