Westminster Select Board unanimously endorses MassDOT roundabout at Route 2A intersection
WINCHENDON — June 29, 2026 — Westminster Select Board endorses MassDOT roundabout at Depot Road and Route 2A, effective 2030. The board voted unanimously Monday to support the state-funded roundabout project after years of unsuccessful lobbying for a traffic signal at the busy intersection, which is heavily used by Montachusett Regional Vocational Technical School buses and is expected to see added truck traffic from a nearby business park. Town Administrator Stephanie told the board that state legislators, department heads, and town officials all advocated for signalization, but MassDOT's traffic study did not meet the agency's metrics for a light on a state-maintained road; the project is programmed in the State Transportation Improvement Program for 2030 with all engineering and construction costs borne by the state. The board also authorized a one-year contract with GoGov to build a customized Westminster mobile app for $5,600, approved a year-end inter-fund transfer of $7,600 to cover a building department staffing adjustment, and unanimously adopted a new five-year strategic staffing policy replacing a 2004 process that could take up to 36 months to authorize a single new position.
