Westborough Library Board to Vote on Up-to-$9,000 Governance Consultant in March

WESTBOROUGH — February 25, 2026 — Westborough Library trustees deferred a vote on hiring a governance consultant and debated space tradeoffs as the library's September reopening nears. At the February 25 meeting, Library Director Stephanie Markisohn presented a proposal from Maura Deedy of Local Librarian Consulting to facilitate a trustee governance retreat, draft updated bylaws, and produce a code of conduct, with three service tiers priced between $2,500 and $9,000; the board agreed to review the formal written proposal and vote in March. The meeting's sharpest exchange came over the discontinued magazine swap, which a public commenter named Janine said she uses to supply magazines to a memory care unit, telling the board "this is a public service that the library has provided for many years that means a lot to a lot of people." Markisohn responded that the renovated building's net usable space has been significantly reduced by new ADA bathrooms and that every shelving inch is already committed to core collections. The renovation itself remains on budget and on track for early September, with pipe-replacement work proceeding after a change order approved by the Library Building Committee, drywall now installed, and shelving decisions approximately 95 percent complete.
