Westborough Finance Committee Approves $10,000 Equipment Transfer for Weights and Measures

WESTBOROUGH — May 28, 2026 — Westborough Finance Committee votes 6-0 to approve $10,000 equipment transfer for weights and measures function. The Advisory Finance Committee unanimously approved moving $10,000 from Community Development salary and wages to Community Development expenses to purchase equipment and fund training after annual town meeting shifted weights and measures responsibilities to the Community Development office, replacing a long-serving official who worked across multiple communities. Finance Director John Steinberg said the full amount may not be needed, noting that conversations with the departing official, referred to as Mr. Mulvey, had clarified that the town owns more equipment than assumed. The committee also heard from Town Meeting Moderator John Arnold, who delivered a post-meeting debrief drawn from nine individual sessions with members, calling for formal onboarding of new members, written role descriptions for the chair, vice chair, and liaison positions, and a regular summer succession-planning conversation. On the library renovation, member Walter Clapp reported that a roofing subcontractor had gone absent, adding two to three weeks to that portion of the project, while a security system overrun of roughly $90,000 was absorbed by the contingency fund, with the overall project still expected to finish under budget.
