West Brookfield Select Board scraps a $1.15 million Proposition 2½ override and puts two funding levels to voters on May 5. Meeting with two of three members present on March 26, the board unanimously rescinded a ballot question approved March 17 and adopted a two-part replacement: Question 1A at roughly $1.1 million, which covers town departments and a modest school assessment increase, and Question 1B at roughly $1.6 million, which would fund the Quabog Regional School District at level service. Quabog Superintendent Steve Duff warned that even the higher figure may not be enough without a matching commitment from Warren, saying flatly, "Warren cannot do the level service request — option one will not pass in Warren." Ray Capaco of the Warren Finance Committee, attending in person, confirmed Warren could back the lower amount but not the higher one.

Town departments have already been asked to absorb 10 percent cuts. Three public informational sessions are set for April 1, April 13, and April 27, all at 6:30 p.m., with tax-impact breakdowns by property value.
