SHREWSBURY — June 9, 2026 — Shrewsbury Housing Authority approves $236,400 capital improvement plan as nine units sit vacant across its properties. The board, meeting June 9 at Shrewsbury Towers, unanimously approved the fiscal year 2026 capital allocation before the June 30 submission deadline, with planned spending at Shrewsbury Towers on window washing, a security camera system, accessibility tub cutouts at roughly $1,000 per unit, and a $50,000 contribution to a roof replacement reserve that now holds approximately $250,000 against an estimated $500,000 to $1 million eventual cost. Executive Director Kelly told the board that nine concurrent vacancies — six at Francis Gardens, one at Elizabeth Street, and two at Shrewsbury Towers — have stretched the four-person maintenance crew and prompted outreach to Worcester Housing Authority's vacancy initiative team, with a private subcontractor also providing estimates. The board also heard that all three Community Preservation Committee warrant articles passed at town meeting, including an affordable housing trust rental assistance pilot program, lighting at Municipal Field, and restoration of Schoolhouse Number Two.
