Mendon Select Board advances $2.1 million culvert borrowing, appoints three residents to town posts. The board unanimously approved two National Grid/Verizon utility poles, named Susan Edmonds to the Board of Registrars, Andrew Nichol to the Capital Planning Committee and Luke Young as a $24.97-an-hour heavy equipment operator. Town Administrator Jeremy said the town will seek $2.1 million in borrowing authority for the Providence Street culvert project, now estimated at $2,025,000, with construction pushed to late summer or fall due to state permitting delays.
Resident Joel Karsh told the board the closure "is a hardship for all the residents of this town on that side." Town counsel ruled a citizens' petition to make Cemetery Street a legal two-way road not legally viable for Town Meeting; a public safety forum on alternatives is set for April 15, with police-detail costs estimated near $66,000 for four months.
