School Committee names Patrick Mara business manager over objection

School Committee · Meeting of May 28, 2026

Millbury School Committee appoints Patrick Mara business manager 4-0-1 over a disclosed conflict of interest. Member Mike Taber abstained, telling colleagues he'd filed a written conflict disclosure over a 2022 disciplinary matter involving his child and Mara, then a vice principal, that produced a no-contact order still in place today. Superintendent Gregory Myers said Mara, a district employee since 2007, had effectively trained for the job all year as assistant business manager.

The committee also accepted a clean fiscal 2025 audit with "no material findings," approved a 23-district FREC supply bid, and voted unanimously to dedicate Windle Field's new tennis and pickleball courts to retiring Assistant Superintendent Richard G. Bedard Jr. It tabled reappointing Elizabeth Boutiette as Title IX coordinator to June 11 after member Christine Pugliese Savage raised unspecified process concerns.
