North Brookfield School Committee Sets $6.83 Million FY27 Budget Request 2-1
NORTH BROOKFIELD — June 3, 2026 — North Brookfield School Committee passes $6.83 million FY27 budget request 2-1, sending it to town meeting. The committee voted Wednesday at its annual budget hearing to set its fiscal year 2027 school budget request at $6,833,824 inclusive of transportation, forwarding the figure to the town moderator for the June 12 annual town meeting warrant. Superintendent McCormick presented a total request of $8.74 million before $1.86 million in offsets — including just over $520,000 in school choice proceeds, circuit breaker reimbursement, and federal and state grants — yielding the net figure, a 5.5 percent decrease from the FY26 approved budget of $7.28 million. The broader total school cost, including indirect expenses, stands at $10,344,720. New member Nancy Waldron voted no, stating she could not reconcile arithmetic discrepancies in the net school spending worksheet: "I'm not comfortable to vote on something that I don't understand." Chair Matthew Grant and member Brande voted yes, with both acknowledging new committee members lacked sufficient time to review the full line-item budget binders before the hearing.
