Rutland Conservation Commission Authorizes $18,200 to Hire Administrative Staff

Rutland Conservation Commission votes to spend $18,200 per year to replace administrative support cut from town budget. The commission voted unanimously June 17 to authorize the annual expenditure from its Wetlands Protection Act account and to have Conservation Agent Melissa Danza work with the town administrator to hire an administrative and clerical staffer, after the commission was notified it will lose its current administrative support effective July 1 due to budget cuts. Danza said the WPA fund holds enough reserves to sustain the $700 biweekly stipend for six or more years, and noted the commission's local bylaw revolving fund could serve as an additional source.

Members said they hope to retain current staffer Tameka, citing her institutional knowledge as "invaluable." In other business, the commission voted unanimously to issue an order of conditions for Cornerstone Bank's project at 91 Main Street and granted a three-year extension of two orders of conditions for CalMEC Enterprises lots off Wachusett Street, originally issued in 2015.
